Da Lat, Vietnam

Da Lat, capital of Lam Dong Province, is located approximately 308km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City. At an elevation of 1,500 m, Da Lat bears the look of an Old French city. It was founded in 1897 when Doctor Alexandre Yersin recommended that the area be developed as a resort town.

The city spreads across a series of pine-covered hills, with a small lake in the center and surrounded by higher peaks, making for some lovely scenery quite different from the rest of Vietnam. The best time to visit is from October to May. The temperate climate of Da Lat is pleasantly warm by day and quite cool at night which is suitable for flowers such as orchids, roses, lilies, camellias, fruits and vegetables.

Da Lat has many natural and artificial lakes such as Ho Xuan Huong, Than Tho, Da Thien, and Tuyen Lam bordered by lines of pine trees, which are a well-known feature of Da Lat. A trip to Da Lat is not complete until one goes to the Da Lat Flower Gardens.

Da Lat is a favorite destination for company weekend outings, family get-aways, and honeymoons. It remains a pleasant stop on a north-south tour, or a pleasant outing from Saigon. For most visitors, Da Lat offers a chance to cool down, observe the Vietnamese at play, view a bit of the French legacy, and enjoy the atmosphere. Many adventurous tourists not only limit themselves to Da Lat, they also visit the area of Langbian Highland and the ethnic minorities. Langbian Mountain’s highest peak at 2,165m is very tempting for climbers. From Lom Bieng Klo peak, one can see endless green mountains reflecting the silver rays of the sun. Many activities are in the area, including parachuting, mountain biking, hiking and cannoning.
